Wildlife Conservation Initiative Plant nursery bed of indigenous plants in the buffer zone of Mukungwa river.

The main objective of the project to install a plant nursery bed of indigenous plant around Mukungwa river to strengthen the restoration and conservation of Mukungwa river by engaging community in its restoration and conservation.


A plant nursery bed of indigenous plants around Mukungwa river is done by use 10 species that sprout in norther region of Rwanda like:  Ficus toningii: Umuvumu; Ficus vallischoudae: Umurehe; Erythrina abysinica: Igiko; Polysias fulva: Umwungo; Vernomia amygdalina: Umubirizi; Tetradenia riparia: Umuravumba; Markamia lutea: Umusave; Maesa lanceolate; Maesopsis emunii; Spathodea campanulate: Sipatodeya.


A total 100 000 sprouts of indigenous plants grown by stem cuttings and seedlings should be grown by engaging 300 local community members in plant nursery bed establishment, transporting land, filling pots, seedlings, stem cuttings, relocation, watering and weeding for successful plant nursery bed of indigenous plants near Mukungwa river.
