Wildlife Conservation Initiative Promoting indigenous trees by restoring Mukungwa river buffer zone in Nyabihu district

Wildlife Conservation Initiative (WCI) is promoting indigenous trees by restoring Mukungwa river buffer zone in Nyabihu district since early 2024.

 

Within 2 years, 70,000 trees made of 59,500 indigenous trees and 10,500 agroforestry trees will be planted at the buffer zone of Mukungwa river.

 

Indigenous trees to be planted at the buffer zone of Mukungwa river: 59,500 trees: Ficus toningii: 12,000 trees; Ficus velloschi: 6,000 trees; Polycias fulva: 1,500 trees; Erythrina abysinica: 20,000 trees and Markamia lutea: 20,000 trees.

 

Agroforestry trees be planted at local community farms nearing the buffer zone of Mukungwa river: 10,500 trees: Alnus acuminata: 5,500 trees and Persea americana: 5,000 trees
