World Environment Day 2025: WCI Takes Action to #BeatPlasticPollution at Karago Lake

Date: June 5, 2025
Location: Karago Lake, Nyabihu District
Event: Birdwatching & Plastic Cleanup Activity

On World Environment Day 2025, the Wildlife Conservation Initiative (WCI) proudly joined the global movement in celebrating two decades of collective action to Beat Plastic Pollution.

As part of the national efforts during Rwanda’s Environment Week, WCI collaborated with community members at Karago Lake in Nyabihu District, engaging in a meaningful day of birdwatching and plastic waste cleanup in the Karago wetlands.

These efforts served not only to conserve critical natural habitats but also to raise awareness on the urgent need to reduce plastic use and build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all. 🌱♻️

Birdwatching allows us to reconnect with nature and recognize the beauty we stand to lose if we don’t act. Cleaning up plastic from wetlands is just one step but it’s a vital one in protecting biodiversity. 🕊️🌿

Together, let’s act for nature, reduce plastic use, and protect biodiversity for generations to come.
